A Anthro-Tech Case Study

Preview of the Sound Transit Case Study

Sound Transit improves rider information with Anthro-Tech, testing with 76 riders across 4 stations

Anthro-Tech partnered with Sound Transit to address the challenge of providing real-time transit information to riders. The agency needed to understand how dynamic digital signs could alleviate rider uncertainty about arrivals, delays, and alerts throughout their journey and fit into the existing rider flow and station context.

The solution implemented by Anthro-Tech involved extensive field research and usability testing of pilot signage across four stations. This human-centered approach led to the development of a strategic framework that delivers specific information types based on station location and rider needs, such as at decision points, transition areas, and waiting areas. The research by Anthro-Tech, which included intercept interviews with 76 riders and shadowing studies, provided the data and design strategy needed to effectively roll out real-time signage across the system to serve Sound Transit's 122 million annual riders.
