A Anthro-Tech Case Study
The National Geothermal Data System, a project directed by the U.S. Department of Energy, faced the challenge of making vast amounts of undigitized and scattered geothermal data accessible. This inefficient and expensive process for finding data hindered the determination of geothermal potential sites. Anthro-Tech was engaged to apply user-centered design principles to create a solution.
Anthro-Tech implemented a comprehensive GIS-based portal featuring a map interface, robust faceted search, and tools for data contribution. The solution provided a one-stop location for finding and sharing geothermal data, supported by plain-talk language to aid all users. As a result, the National Geothermal Data System now boasts over 10 million data records, 6,300 geological maps, and is used by 50 collaborators who contribute hundreds of new datasets every month.
