Using Technology to Facilitate Assessment and Accreditation in Counseling Programs

Wake Forest University’s Department of Counseling — a large program with online and face-to-face cohorts and about seventy-five teaching assistants — faced fragmented assessment data, manual practicum paperwork, and the need to produce evidence for CACREP accreditation. To address these challenges they began using Anthology Portfolio (formerly Chalk & Wire) in 2017 to support embedded course assessment, experiential learning tracking, and integration with their LMS.

Anthology’s Portfolio ePortfolio and Experiential Learning tools centralized submissions, outcome-aligned assessment instruments, quantitative ratings, and feedback storage, replacing paper logs and ad hoc scanning. As a result, Wake Forest can run detailed assessment reports, aggregate/disaggregate data for annual program review and CACREP reporting, save many hours of administrative work, and more easily engage students, faculty and field partners — and Anthology’s platform also enabled a rapid pivot to fully online operations during COVID‑19.
