Using Course Data in Illuminate to Celebrate—and Expand—Successful Teaching and Learning

The University of Northampton needed better insight into how students were engaging with virtual courses and how instructors were using the VLE. To close that gap they worked with Anthology, deploying Anthology Illuminate alongside their existing Blackboard environment to collect and interpret course- and interaction-level data.

Anthology used Illuminate to surface easy-to-find analytics and reports from Blackboard, enabling Northampton to link course design to student engagement, celebrate excellence through the Ultra Course Awards, and benchmark performance. Using Anthology Illuminate the university found award-winning courses consistently yielded higher rates of student involvement versus the university baseline, increased faculty buy-in, and created actionable steps for wider sharing, benchmarking, and grade-to-engagement analysis.
