San Diego State University Increases Funds Raised with Crowdfunding Effort

San Diego State University’s Alumni Association wanted a faster, more urgent way to connect its 300,000+ alumni to targeted giving opportunities and move into crowdfunding. Working with Anthology and leveraging the existing Encompass/iModules-based platform, SDSU set out to create a purpose-built crowdfunding experience that would drive quick, project-specific donations and stronger alumni engagement.

Anthology helped SDSU launch Strive, a branded crowdfunding site built with iModules tools (online giving, website design, content management and email marketing) featuring reusable templates, project pages with goals and time remaining, an application/review process, and targeted outreach via email, text and social media. The results were significant: more raised in six weeks than in the prior six months, over $27,000 in the first five months, 15 campaigns completed (six fully funded), an average gift of $96 and about 25 donors per campaign—plus surpassed 2014 donor totals within two months, 1,000+ promo video views and local media coverage.
