How University of South Carolina Upstate got buy-in for changes to the faculty review process

University of South Carolina Upstate, led by Dr. Celena Kusch, needed to overhaul its faculty review process after the disruptions of the pandemic and move away from a paper-based and SharePoint system. To gain campus buy‑in and embed the change in policy, they chose Anthology’s ePortfolio solution (Anthology Portfolio) to create a clearer, more equitable electronic review workflow.

Using Anthology Portfolio, USC Upstate moved promotion, tenure, pre‑tenure and annual reviews into an electronic ePortfolio system, embedding policies and automated reminders in templates to increase transparency and completion. The Anthology implementation eliminated roughly 14 process steps, achieved nearly 100% completion among required participants, and produced strong buy‑in—94% of faculty candidates said they would never return to paper—while the university prepares to extend the solution to post‑tenure review.
