How University of Pretoria Embraced Adopt to Improve the Learner Experience

The University of Pretoria (UP), a four-year public university in Pretoria serving over 54,000 students, needed to upgrade its Anthology Blackboard instance to Blackboard Ultra without disrupting teaching and learning. To manage this large-scale change and ensure clear, localized communication with both students and faculty, UP turned to Anthology and its Anthology Adopt solution to provide in‑LMS support and targeted messaging.

Anthology Adopt (powered by Pendo) was deployed to deliver contextual in-app communications that linked users to UP’s clickUP Ultra Help Site and award‑winning training resources, while Anthology’s reporting gave the E‑Learning team insights on message cadence, language, and calls-to-action. The Adopt implementation improved adoption and visibility of new features across UP’s 54,000 learners, helped shift focus to pedagogy during feature rollouts, and supported a smooth migration that contributed to UP receiving a Catalyst Award in 2024.
