Career College Pioneers and Best Practices for Competency-Based Education

Rasmussen College partnered with Anthology and used the CampusNexus Student platform to tackle the challenge of making higher education more flexible and transparent for adult learners. The college aimed to design competency-based education (CBE) programs that document and assess skills aligned to employer needs while meeting accreditation and regulatory requirements.

Anthology enabled Rasmussen’s “Flex Choice” hybrid delivery—combining self-paced, simulation-based competency courses with traditional faculty-led classes—so students can complete some credits at no additional cost and progress by mastering competencies. As a result, Rasmussen now offers 26 programs with the Flex Choice option, has improved visibility into student progress and competencies, increased employer confidence in graduates, and participates in the Department of Education’s Experimental Sites Initiative.
