As University Grows, New Automated Billing System Improves Student Accounts Visibility and Management

Mercer University, a private research university with more than 8,600 students across campuses in Macon, Atlanta and Savannah, faced time-consuming, manual billing and collections processes that delayed billing for weeks and limited 24/7 financial visibility for students and parents. To address these challenges, Mercer partnered with Anthology and implemented web-based student financial management tools, including the CampusNexus billing system.

Anthology’s CampusNexus automated billing, ledger adjustments and collections workflows, enabling Mercer to bill by campus, eliminate timeout issues and auto-populate collection records. The results were dramatic: Mercer can now process over 9,000 students in 30 minutes, reduce account-transfer workflows from three days to about ten minutes, cut individual student research from 15–20 hours to under five minutes, and shrink arrears staffing from five employees at eight hours a day to three employees at one hour a day — all while increasing direct service to students without hiring additional staff.
