An LMS That Not Only Handles a Mixed-Learning Model but Is Helping to Advance It

PXL University of Applied Sciences and Arts, a four-year public institution in Hasselt with 19,000 students, needed an LMS that could support its pioneering mixed‑learning model—on‑campus, online and professional fieldwork—after learners found the previous system clunky and faculty struggled to track progress. Unsure any platform could deliver the seamless, anytime/anywhere access required, PXL selected Anthology’s Blackboard (Ultra) and set an ambitious timeline for migration.

Anthology implemented Blackboard Ultra through 15 pilot projects and a one‑year full migration (target completed Sept 1, 2023), enabling seamless access on any device, a standardized fixed course view, and improved progress tracking for faculty. The deployment now supports 1,400 faculty and 25,000 courses, has simplified student access across all learning modalities, and helped PXL advance its goal of making courses fully available asynchronously or synchronously—demonstrating measurable institutional scale and a successful partnership with Anthology.
