The University of Reading commissioned Anthesis to optimize the energy use of its student services building. Due to the building's relatively efficient design, the challenge was to reduce its energy consumption through methods other than building fabric improvements.

Anthesis implemented a metering, monitoring, and targeting service to identify excessive energy use. This process revealed several areas for technical improvement and led to the introduction of a behavior change programme for building users. This solution from Anthesis reduced energy use in target areas by 25 percent and cut out-of-hours energy consumption by up to 40 percent, a success the university is considering applying to other campus buildings.
