Case Study: Tesco reduces food waste and supply chain costs with Anthesis

A Anthesis Case Study

Preview of the Tesco Case Study

Tesco Exchange Supporting Tesco’s Suppliers to Reduce Food Waste

Tesco, a major British supermarket, faced the challenge of food waste within its extensive supply chain, where over three million tonnes of produce were lost before even reaching stores. To address this and support its Net Zero and waste reduction targets, Tesco partnered with its long-term advisor, Anthesis, to develop a solution hosted on the existing Tesco Supplier Network (TSN) platform.

Anthesis designed and launched the Tesco Exchange, a dedicated online marketplace for suppliers. This platform enables over 3,500 of Tesco's suppliers to sell, donate, or request surplus stock and production waste, creating a circular economy within the supply chain. The solution, managed by Anthesis, has improved supplier communication, reduced production costs, and is working towards the significant goal of halving supply chain food waste by 2025. Anthesis continues to support the project by onboarding users and monitoring progress.
