Supporting Sanctuary to Reach Net Zero for Blacon Adventure Playground

Sanctuary, a leading national housing and care provider, sought to retrofit its Blacon Adventure Playground to reach Net Zero. They required specialist decarbonisation advice from vendor Anthesis to determine the most impactful technical approach and to find ways to engage the community on energy efficiency.

Anthesis provided a detailed options appraisal to establish a carbon baseline and model viable retrofit measures. They produced technical designs for heat pumps, LED lighting, and solar PV panels, and advised on offsetting residual emissions. Their solution included creating an interactive educational game for the center. As a result, Sanctuary reduced the site's emissions by over five tonnes annually. The project won a National Energy Efficiency Award and successfully engaged the local community in learning about decarbonisation.
