Supporting Hg to Set Science Based Targets Across Its Portfolio

Hg, a leading software and services investor, needed to understand the implications of setting a science-based target (SBT) for its portfolio following the release of new SBTi Guidance. The firm engaged Anthesis, a key author of the Guidance, to help model the feasibility and timeline for its over 40 portfolio companies to adopt their own SBTs and to comprehend the risks of not taking action.

Anthesis modeled the SBT trajectory across Hg’s portfolio using different adoption scenarios and a portfolio coverage approach. This work enabled Hg to set an approved SBT, committing its entire portfolio to have individual targets by 2040. The solution, which included a custom tracking model developed by Anthesis, paves the way for an estimated 90% reduction in portfolio emissions and supports Hg’s annual sustainability reporting.
