Implementing Internal Carbon Pricing for a Global Manufacturer and International Brand

A global manufacturer and international brand with ambitious sustainability targets sought to implement an internal carbon pricing (ICP) system to influence investment decisions and drive organizational behavior change to meet its net zero goals. To address this challenge, the company partnered with the sustainability consultant Anthesis to scope, pilot, and implement this new system.

Anthesis initiated a pilot by introducing a shadow carbon price into the client's business case approval process. They quantified carbon impacts, developed bespoke tools and training for carbon quantification, and recommended a defensible carbon price. This solution provided the client with a functional ICP mechanism and clear implementation guidance. As a result, investment decisions now must factor in carbon impact, creating a material incentive for emissions reductions. Following the project, Anthesis was engaged to expand the ICP system to other business areas like procurement.
