Case Study: Nespresso achieves sustainable coffee supply chain impact with Anthesis

A Anthesis Case Study

Preview of the Nespresso Case Study

How Anthesis helped Nespresso to integrate sustainability into its coffee supply chain, ensuring traceability and social, economic and environmental sustainability in farming communities

Nespresso, a major global coffee brand, faced the challenge of integrating sustainability into its supply chain to ensure traceability and improve social, economic, and environmental conditions in farming communities. To address this, they engaged the sustainability consultancy Anthesis to help develop a comprehensive strategy.

Anthesis developed the "The Positive Cup" sustainability strategy and helped implement it through innovations like the AAA Sustainable Quality™ programme. Their work included creating initiatives to revive coffee farming in struggling regions, establishing a retirement savings plan for farmers in Colombia, and piloting a weather-indexed crop insurance scheme. The results were significant, with Anthesis helping Nespresso source 95% of its coffee sustainably from over 120,000 farmers and dramatically improving farmer livelihoods across social, environmental, and economic metrics.
