Expanding Microsoft’s Compliance Platform for Sustainability

Microsoft, the technology company, faced the challenge of meeting its ambitious 2030 zero-waste and responsible packaging goals. They needed to efficiently collect and validate material data from their global supply chain to ensure regulatory compliance and measure sustainability. To address this, Microsoft partnered with the sustainability consultant Anthesis to expand its compliance platform.

Anthesis developed a custom solution that integrated a standardized data collection template and workflows to capture and validate packaging information from suppliers. This enabled Microsoft to systematically report on material content for regulatory submissions and on sustainability metrics for its corporate goals. The project gave Microsoft the new ability to collect and validate global packaging data, calculate carbon and waste footprints, and directly submit required dossiers to agencies like the European Chemicals Agency.
