Case Study: IGD advances sustainable packaging systems with Anthesis

A Anthesis Case Study

Preview of the IGD Case Study

Collaborating with IGD to Create Sustainable Packaging Systems

Anthesis collaborated with IGD, the Institute of Grocery Distribution, to help the food and consumer goods industry address the challenge of making packaging systems more sustainable. The industry's goal was to halve the environmental impact of all packaging by 2030, a target that required moving beyond existing legislation and commitments.

Anthesis began by establishing a 2019 baseline and modelling scenarios to identify a path forward. Their analysis determined that business-as-usual would fail, and they identified three key levers to meet the ambition: packaging removal, increasing recycled content, and supply chain decarbonization. The findings have been instrumental in helping the industry understand the necessary scale of change and are now being used to review strategies and drive systemic progress.
