Case Study: World Wildlife Fund improves plastic waste tracking with Anthesis's ReSource Footprint Tracker

A Anthesis Case Study

Preview of the World Wildlife Fund Case Study

Anthesis worked with World Wildlife Fund to develop the ReSource Footprint Tracker’s “Waste Management Model” to estimate the likely waste management outcome of a company’s consumer-facing plastic packaging

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) launched the ReSource: Plastic initiative to help companies translate their plastic reduction commitments into measurable action but faced a challenge in measuring and reporting on plastic waste management outcomes globally. To address this, WWF partnered with the sustainability consultancy Anthesis to develop a global model for tracking plastic waste.

Anthesis implemented a solution by building the ReSource Footprint Tracker’s Waste Management Model. They conducted a literature review to create a country-level database and built a tiered model to estimate the likely fate of plastic packaging, whether recycled, landfilled, incinerated, or mismanaged. This model provided WWF and its member companies with critical, transparent data to focus their resources effectively, ultimately helping to streamline information for addressing the plastic pollution crisis.
