A Antea Group Case Study
The Ontario Ministry of the Environment faced a significant environmental challenge at a 475,000 sq ft former telecomm manufacturing warehouse. The site had extensive chlorinated solvent (TCE) contamination in its groundwater, exacerbated by shallow bedrock, which had been managed for two decades by a costly and ineffective pump and treat system. The Ministry engaged Antea Group to discontinue this system and find a more efficient, risk-based pathway to achieve site closure.
Antea Group conducted gap-filling investigations and performed Human Health and Ecological Risk Assessments. These evaluations found no significant risks, but to mitigate any potential future exposure, the vendor recommended and developed a comprehensive Risk Management Plan centered on a sub-slab venting system. The implementation of this plan by Antea Group successfully met the Ministry's goals for human health protection, reduced groundwater monitoring frequency, lowered operational costs, and enhanced long-term environmental safety.
