Case Study: Jacobs uses ANSYS CFX to improve hydraulic flow simulation and reduce model testing

A ANSYS Case Study

Using fluid simulation to imagine, design, and build a better world

Jacobs, identified in the case study as CH2M HILL, is a multinational engineering and construction firm that faced difficult hydraulics and process problems in large-scale civil infrastructure projects. Onsite process automation was impractical, scale model testing was time-consuming and expensive, and the complex physics involved transient, turbulent, multiphase flows.

ANSYS CFX was used to simulate applications such as vortex drop shafts, tank mixing and storage, and open channel intakes. The software eliminated the need for expensive model testing, reduced analysis time to a fraction of what it had been, and produced results that closely matched the performance of installed systems. ANSYS also helped Jacobs apply CFD more effectively through ease of use and technical support.
