TibaRay, Inc. uses ANSYS engineering solutions to design next-generation electron accelerators for radiation therapy and other applications

TibaRay is a startup developing PHASER, a next‑generation radiation therapy system that aims to reduce treatment times to less than a second and cut collateral damage, improve motion management, and lower cost and access barriers. Designing the novel, high‑power RF accelerators and components needed for PHASER posed major electromagnetic and thermal simulation challenges, so TibaRay relied on ANSYS tools — including the ANSYS Electromagnetic Suite, ANSYS HFSS, ANSYS Mechanical and ANSYS Fluent — to turn accelerator science into workable designs.

ANSYS simulation solutions were used to design and optimize RF linear accelerators, RF windows, phase shifters and power dividers to handle extremely high power levels, accelerating development and reducing iteration time. By using ANSYS, TibaRay was able to generate accurate prototypes in a reasonable timeframe, fulfill current component contracts that support its revenue stream, and advance toward the PHASER goal of near‑instant treatment delivery; ANSYS was explicitly credited as essential to these engineering and business outcomes.
