A ANSYS Case Study
Eicher Tractors faced the challenge of designing a tractor muffler that maximized transmission loss (to reduce noise) while minimizing backpressure (to preserve engine power), all while cutting development cost and time and ensuring simulation predictions matched physical testing. To tackle this, Eicher Tractors worked with ANSYS using ANSYS Mechanical for acoustic harmonic analysis and ANSYS Fluent for CFD backpressure simulations.
ANSYS implemented an integrated simulation approach—acoustic harmonic analysis in ANSYS Mechanical to optimize transmission loss and steady-state CFD in ANSYS Fluent to minimize pressure drop—with prototype testing that closely validated the models. The ANSYS-led solution cut the design cycle from about 20 weeks to 8 weeks, reduced costs by roughly 40%, sped time to market, established a validated CAE-driven design process that increased productivity, and produced an optimum muffler design meeting all standards.
