Case Study: Maico Gulf LLC secures government approval for parking garage smoke and heat safety with ANSYS Fluent

A ANSYS Case Study

Simulation ensures that warehouse renovations will maintain required temperatures

Maico Gulf LLC, a multinational supplier of jet fans and ventilation products in the UAE, faced the challenge of proving to Civil Defence that a large parking garage’s smoke-management system would meet strict fire-safety requirements (including visibility greater than 12 meters after smoke clearance and acceptable temperature limits). To address this, Maico Gulf worked with ANSYS, using ANSYS Fluent and ANSYS DesignModeler to perform CFD-based simulations of smoke accumulation, clearing, and heat from fires.

ANSYS built a 3-D model and ran Fluent simulations (applying 2.5 MW fire loads at two locations) to generate visibility and temperature maps at key intervals (for example, 300s and 1,200s), showing metrics such as visibility relative to the 12 m standard and temperatures of about 40°C at 10 m from the fire. The ANSYS results enabled Maico Gulf to identify safe evacuation routes, revise ventilation placement where needed, meet Civil Defence criteria, and obtain approval without constructing a scale model—delivering measurable compliance and faster project approval.
