A ANSYS Case Study
Piaggio Group, a leading Italian scooters and motorcycles manufacturer, needed to rapidly analyze very complex Pro/E geometry under test conditions without prior knowledge of critical areas—requiring detailed modeling of features such as rounds across the entire assembly. To meet this challenge they worked with ANSYS, using ANSYS Workbench™ to streamline CAD associativity, meshing and contact setup.
ANSYS imported the geometry into ANSYS Workbench™, corrected a few CAD singularities, and used the Workbench tet mesher to generate about 1 million nodes and 600K elements; the iterative solver produced a solution in roughly 2 hours on a standard Intel workstation. ANSYS then sub‑modeled the highly localized hot spot for nonlinear plastic analysis, cutting engineering time from weeks to days, enabling complete test‑bench simulations in only a few days and quickly identifying the most stressed region to assess test pass/fail — delivering clear productivity and time savings for Piaggio Group.
