ISGEC Hitachi Zosen Limited - Customer Case Study

ISGEC Hitachi Zosen Limited, a market-leading manufacturer of complex pressure vessels and heat exchangers, needed to evaluate creep damage for 2.25Cr-1Mo-0.25V steels at temperatures above the ASME Section VIII, Division 2 limit (per ASME Code Case 2605 up to 454 °C). Manual, spreadsheet-based methods that treated plasticity and creep separately were error-prone and slow, so ISGEC partnered with ANSYS and used ANSYS MAPDL (user programmable feature) to develop a compliant analysis approach.

ANSYS engineers helped ISGEC implement a Code Case 2605 creep subroutine via the UPF in ANSYS MAPDL, combining user-defined creep with built-in plasticity models to compute creep strain and damage under cyclic thermal-mechanical loading up to 454 °C. With ANSYS, ISGEC was able to optimize equipment weight while keeping creep damage within code limits, drastically reduce calculation and post-processing time, and eliminate common spreadsheet-related human errors.
