Case Study: Vaughan Co., Inc. achieves optimized chopper-pump and process-mixing performance with ANSYS CFX

A ANSYS Case Study

Preview of the Vaughan Co, Inc. Case Study

Improving the performance of chopper pumps and process mixing systems

Vaughan Co, Inc., a world leader in chopper pumps and maker of the Rotamix process mixing system, needed to minimize dead zones in large tank mixing installations and optimize low‑velocity, multi‑scale flows that are costly or impractical to test on-site. To solve these scale-up and convergence challenges, Vaughan turned to ANSYS and its CFD product ANSYS CFX.

ANSYS CFX enabled Vaughan Co, Inc. to model each unique installation, test multiple nozzle positions, aiming and flow rates, and optimize active mixed volume and pump performance without costly prototypes. ANSYS’s coupled algebraic multigrid solver delivered reliable convergence for challenging flows, installed systems confirmed the CFD predictions, Vaughan brought several new pump models to market, and customers gained confidence that their installations would meet operating needs.
