Ford Motor Company - Customer Case Study

Ford Motor Company’s Engine NVH Analysis Section faced growing pressure from compressed program timing and ever-larger finite element models for tasks like modal and radiated noise analysis, crank/block interaction, and intake/exhaust NVH. To meet the need for fast, accurate FE models with minimal degrees of freedom, Ford turned to ANSYS and its meshing offering (ANSYS Meshing Solution), specifically using ANSYS AI*Environment for tetrahedral mesh generation.

ANSYS implemented AI*Environment tet meshing that imports data from sources like I-DEAS and X‑ray scans, fits meshes to localized geometry without excess elements, and eliminates geometry rework. The result: model builds that once took over a week were reduced to two models per day during a 17-model DOE, enabling on-time delivery of prototypes with optimal design features; overall model creation shifted from days to hours, demonstrating clear time-to-design and productivity gains for ANSYS.
