Expediting Brake Rotor Design Cycle through ANSYS Workbench Templates

TRW Automotive faced pressure to deliver mature, validated RFQ design proposals quickly and efficiently to remain competitive. Traditional sequential CAE workflows were too slow for evaluating multiple brake rotor concepts, so TRW turned to ANSYS software—specifically ANSYS Workbench and ANSYS Mechanical—to accelerate upfront analysis and improve proposal maturity.

Using the ANSYS Workbench platform, TRW developed a custom template that automates CAD import, applies loads and boundary conditions, and runs thermal, stress and dynamic analyses concurrently. The ANSYS-based template increased automation and throughput, brought FEA to the front of the design cycle, enabled simultaneous evaluation of multiple proposals, and cut FEA analysis time by over 90%.
