A ANSYS Case Study
Componeering Inc., a Finnish specialist in simulation and design of high-performance composite structures, needed to analyze a carbon-fiber composite electronics housing for micro‑satellites where tight packaging made heat dissipation and radiation shielding difficult. The challenge included anisotropic laminate behavior, low failure strain of K1100 fibers, and thermal-expansion mismatches that complicate conventional analysis, so Componeering paired ESAComp with ANSYS (ANSYS Mechanical and APDL) to tackle the problem.
By integrating ESAComp with ANSYS Mechanical and using APDL for parametric modeling, ANSYS enabled combined structural and thermal analyses, contact modeling, and modal analysis up to 800 Hz, allowing rapid iteration without early physical prototypes. The workflow helped Componeering optimize the laminate, identify critical interlaminar stresses, and achieve a 29% mass saving versus an aluminum housing, completing the ESA study in just 18 months.
