Cable Protection Leader Achieves Zero-Defect Goal with Simulation

Schlemmer, a leading maker of cable protection systems, needed to validate bending and crush behavior of its hoses while reducing the time and cost of producing physical prototypes. The company faced complex large-deformation, nonlinear contact and material-behavior challenges that made traditional testing expensive and slow, so Schlemmer turned to ANSYS and specifically ANSYS Mechanical to virtually test designs early in development.

ANSYS implemented model-based bending and crush simulations in ANSYS Mechanical, defining the hoses as nonlinear elastic–plastic materials and running large-deformation, nonlinear-contact analyses to compare design alternatives. The ANSYS solution delivered short solution times with robust contact algorithms, helped Schlemmer reduce the number of expensive prototypes, improve product robustness, and move toward its zero-defect goal while maintaining leadership in cable protection systems.
