Case Study: KTM Technologies achieves 20% monocoque weight reduction with ANSYS Composite PrepPost

A ANSYS Case Study

Preview of the KTM Technologies Case Study

ANSYS helps KTM Technologies develop an exceptional Audi e-bike

KTM Technologies, the composites engineering arm of the KTM group, faced the challenge of designing a lightweight, high‑strength carbon‑composite monocoque for the KTM X‑Bow that uses more than 300 pre‑cut plies. To address complex choices around materials, fiber orientation, layup and manufacturing, KTM turned to ANSYS, using ANSYS Mechanical, ANSYS Workbench and specifically ANSYS Composite PrepPost for simulation‑driven composites development.

ANSYS Composite PrepPost was used to model ply‑level behavior, evaluate multiple layups and include manufacturing effects, enabling KTM to run different design studies in a single day. With ANSYS simulation, KTM Technologies reduced the monocoque’s weight by 20 percent while assessing failure behavior under varied load scenarios, delivering a lighter, safer super sports car.
