Datev, a German provider of accounting and finance software serving tax consultants, auditors and businesses, needed a secure way for more than 1,000 developers to share knowledge. Public forums were off limits for proprietary code, internal SharePoint was unreliable, and developers were wasting time answering the same questions by phone and email.

Datev implemented AnswerHub, seeding the site with FAQs and encouraging participation; today it has 2,000 seats, about 2,000 questions and 7,500 answers, with 88% of questions having an accepted answer and responses often posted within an hour. The community freed developer time, boosted participation (over half of developers registered), introduced gamification, helped break down silos, and is being extended to the support organization.
