Hortonworks, a leader in open data platforms focused on Apache Hadoop, NiFi and Spark, needed a way to turn fragmented WordPress Q&A forums into a vibrant, branded technical community. The company required a scalable, Stack Overflow–style Q&A system that supported gamification, rich content (knowledge articles and code), permissions for internal/external collaboration, and customization to build affinity for Hortonworks technology.
Hortonworks selected AnswerHub, worked with DZone Software to implement the Hortonworks Community Connection (launched December 2015), and enforced a knowledge-sharing strategy that redirected internal traffic into the community. The site quickly grew from zero external users at launch to over 3,000 registered externals, 15,000 unique weekly visitors and 800,000 page views in February 2016, delivering centralized knowledge, self-service answers, extensible content and stronger community engagement.
