Essex County Council boosts digital take-up to 98.5% with Annertech

Essex County Council faced the challenge of encouraging residents to reduce landfill waste and increase recycling to meet a 2035 target. Their old system was difficult to update and not user-friendly, making it a poor tool for their ambitious goal of changing user behavior. They engaged the digital agency Annertech to build a new microsite, Love Essex, using the LocalGov Drupal platform.

Annertech developed a user-centric solution with a unique search function that organizes disposal options by environmental impact. The new system made it easy for editors to manage data and for residents to find information. The results were excellent, with the site achieving a 94% performance score and 779,773 total user sessions. Most significantly, the solution led to a 98.5% digital uptake, massively reducing demand on the council's contact centre.
