Metsähallitus launches a responsive map service in 2020 with Anders

Metsähallitus, a Finnish state-owned enterprise managing public lands and waters, faced a challenge with its outdated outdoor recreation map service, Retkikartta.fi. The original service from 2007 had evolved into numerous fragmented versions for different web services and a separate mobile-optimized site, creating an administratively cumbersome and heavy user interface to manage. Their goal was to consolidate this into a single, scalable map service for all terminals and various organizational websites. They partnered with vendor Anders to completely renew the service and design a responsive route map application.

Anders implemented a solution that retained the best features from previous map services while creating new, contemporary functionalities. The project utilized new software products with a special focus on improving mobile usability. The new, unified Retkikartta.fi service was successfully launched in June 2020, providing users with a single responsive web map application to view nature sites, trails, and fishing and hunting areas. The customer, Metsähallitus, reported a highly positive working relationship with Anders, praising their strong expertise and smooth interaction throughout the project.
