Case Study: HP achieves vastly improved, accelerated patent searches with Anaqua's AcclaimIP

A Anaqua Case Study

Preview of the HP Case Study

How HP Uses Anaqua to Vastly Improve Its Patent Searches

HP, a major player in a fiercely competitive patent landscape, faced the challenge of quickly understanding and comparing massive patent portfolios—most notably when evaluating Samsung’s print business (6,500 patents) for acquisition. The team needed to determine not just patent counts but whether those patents were fundamental and valuable to HP’s business, all under tight timelines.

Using Anaqua’s AcclaimIP and its Matrix Query Manager to access USPTO data, HP ran hierarchical, cross-referenced searches, citation and family-size analyses, and generated patent summary pages and saved searches. The tools transformed a months-long, team-based effort into a rapid, repeatable process—boosting throughput from roughly 10 landscape reports a year to dozens or more, enabling one analyst to evaluate dozens of portfolios quickly and providing the strategic insights HP needed to confirm Samsung’s portfolio strength.
