A Amwell Case Study
WEA Trust, a not-for-profit health plan serving Wisconsin public employees, wanted to “reclaim healthcare” by making care more affordable, convenient, and member-centric. To address members’ limited ability to leave work for appointments and to drive benefit utilization, WEA Trust selected Amwell’s telehealth platform as its partner for a 24/7 virtual care benefit.
Working with Amwell, WEA Trust rolled out a five-step program—employer buy‑in, low copays (initially $5, later $0), incentivized marketing (Kinsa thermometer giveaway, Packers raffle), persona-targeted outreach, and continual optimization with employer toolkits. The Amwell program enrolled over 7,000 members (10% of the plan) within 12–18 months, with 30% of enrollees using the service, more than $316,000 saved in healthcare costs to date, doubled sign-ups from one-to-one incentives, and high satisfaction scores (4.4 overall; 4.7 for Amwell physicians).
