Avera Health, a regional integrated health system with a long-standing business-to-business telemedicine network, wanted to extend care directly into patient homes across its 72,000‑square‑mile footprint. To launch a consumer telehealth service called AveraNow that could support urgent care, kiosks and future clinical use cases while integrating with the Avera Health Plan and clinician workflows, Avera selected Amwell as its telehealth vendor.
Amwell delivered an externally hosted platform, built and branded the AveraNow mobile app and supported kiosk integration, clinical protocol development and rollout activities—helping Avera attain ATA accreditation quickly. Early results included 2,500 enrollments and 372 completed visits in the first 12 weeks with visits doubling month‑over‑month, an average patient satisfaction score of 4.71/5 (94% five‑star ratings), an estimated net savings of $48 per visit, 12% of users new to Avera, and prescribing and antibiotic‑stewardship metrics in line with or better than national in‑office averages.
