Case Study: Wales & West Utilities improves asset data accuracy with AMT-SYBEX

A AMT-SYBEX Case Study

Preview of the Wales & West Utilities Case Study

Transforming the accuracy and precision of on-site data capture and transmission

Wales & West Utilities, one of the UK’s gas distribution networks, needed a more accurate and efficient way to capture and manage the location of newly laid gas pipes as it replaced old metal mains with plastic ones. Its paper-based field process was slow, prone to error, and made it difficult to maintain precise asset records for future maintenance and emergency response. To address this, the company worked with AMT-SYBEX using its Affinity Geofield mobile solution alongside Leica Geosystems GNSS equipment.

AMT-SYBEX implemented a digital mobile data capture solution that lets field engineers map assets to centimetre-level accuracy, even in remote areas without a live connection, and transmit validated data to the office in seconds. The result was faster workflows, reduced paperwork and costs, fewer errors, and much better asset records; engineers can now cover around two kilometres more pipeline per year than with the old paper method, while future maintenance and incident response should be safer and more efficient thanks to improved location data.
