Our True Value Proposition: Doubling User Retention and Building a Better App with Amplitude Analytics

Walkie-talkie, a Gen-Z social audio app from Picslo Corp, was growing quickly but struggled with low user retention, with 30-day retention below 8%. The team also lacked a proper analytics platform, making it difficult to understand which behaviors led to long-term engagement. To address this, Walkie-talkie turned to Amplitude Analytics to better track user behavior and uncover why users were dropping off.

Using Amplitude, Walkie-talkie segmented users, analyzed cohorts, and visualized in-app behaviors to identify the app’s true value proposition. The insights showed that users who interacted on public frequencies with strangers had the highest retention, leading the team to redesign onboarding around discovery instead of contacts. As a result, 30-day retention rose from under 8% to over 20%, daily active users grew from 70,000 to over 300,000, and monthly active users increased from 1 million to 4 million, with Amplitude now used across much of the company.
