Case Study: Babbel achieves data-driven rapid growth and faster content releases with Amplitude

A Amplitude Case Study

Preview of the Babbel Case Study

How Babbel became the top-selling, language-learning app by becoming data-driven

Babbel is a Berlin-based, subscription language-learning app—one of the world’s top-grossing in its category with over 10 million subscriptions and presence in 14 languages—that needed to become more data-driven to sustain rapid growth. Its small analytics team was overwhelmed by ad-hoc requests, and nontechnical stakeholders (content creators and language experts) couldn’t access or act on product data without SQL, slowing product decisions and expansion.

Babbel implemented Amplitude as a self-service BI solution and paired it with a data-literacy program (intro workshops, weekly analyst Q&As, a Slack channel with data ambassadors, and event taxonomy protocols). Product teams now use Amplitude templates and dashboards to monitor changes, shorten release cycles, improve content, and track conversion, engagement, and retention—reducing dependence on analysts and enabling faster, measurable decision-making across the company.
