How the City of Chattanooga Built a Smarter Grant Process that Works Citywide

The City of Chattanooga faced a fragmented, decentralized grant process that couldn’t keep up with increased funding during the COVID-19 era — including $38.6M in ARPA funds — and relied on a shared Google Drive that made compliance, audits, and visibility difficult. To centralize workflows and support the full grant lifecycle, the City selected AmpliFund’s grant management software (GMS) to replace ad hoc processes and provide citywide tracking and reporting.

AmpliFund was rolled out via an ARPA subrecipient pilot, phased trainings, and hands-on support, enabling quick adoption across departments and external partners. As a result, Chattanooga now manages $133M+ in grants with 133 active grants (up from 58 in FY23), 111 internal users and 64 external recipients; reports that once took hours can be pulled in minutes, FOIA responses are faster, and routine paperwork was reduced to roughly one hour. AmpliFund’s platform also supported creation of a citywide grants manual and expanded use cases such as a $6M urban forestry grant managed by Parks.
