Case Study: MCE improves load forecasting accuracy with Amperon

A Amperon Case Study

Preview of the MCE Case Study

MCE reduces load forecast error by 40% with Amperon

MCE, a major community choice aggregator in California, was challenged by the complex load forecasting required across its service area's distinct microclimates and varying rates of electrification. Their previous provider's solution had significant limitations, including short forecast horizons and inaccurate predictions during extreme weather, which contributed directly to financial exposure. To enhance its forecasting, MCE partnered with vendor Amperon to develop a base load and loss-adjusted load forecast.

Amperon implemented a solution that leveraged over 120 hyper-granular weather points to create unique hourly load prediction models for MCE's service area. This resulted in a 40% reduction in forecast error and generated $2.3 million in savings for the customer. The implementation was completed within three weeks, and Amperon's accurate forecasts now critically support MCE's daily load management operations and mission to provide renewable electricity.
