Listening and Teamwork Lead to Lasting Improvements in Benefits Administration and Delivery

ICUBA, a nonprofit higher education benefits cooperative serving 29 member schools, faced significant challenges with its former benefits administrator. Issues included a lengthy implementation process, inflexible administration, poor customer service, and difficulties managing its unique HRA vesting structure. The organization partnered with Ameriflex to provide administration for its Flexible Spending Accounts, Health Reimbursement Arrangements, and COBRA plans in order to resolve these problems.

Ameriflex implemented a consultative solution, designing a custom program that treated ICUBA as one company with multiple divisions. This included providing a dedicated point of contact, building bundled plans for each school, and ensuring seamless data flow with its EDI vendor. The results were a much shorter 8-week implementation, timely HRA processing within 3-5 days, and a 95% success rate on substantiations. Participant enrollment grew from 9,062 to over 10,490, and member schools reported smoother processes and improved satisfaction.
