WSDOT Completes Efficiency Project to Save Money and Reduce Carbon Footprint

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) needed to improve energy efficiency across a large, dispersed portfolio—167 sites (over 800 buildings)—and retained Ameresco to perform a comprehensive energy audit and develop cost‑effective upgrades using an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) and Ameresco’s AssetPlanner cloud‑based application.

Ameresco delivered a $12 million ESPC implementing LED lighting and occupancy sensors, communicating programmable thermostats, HVAC and building envelope upgrades, and low‑flow plumbing across nearly 170 sites; the project generates nearly $1,000,000 in annual utility savings, cuts CO2 emissions by 4,876 metric tons, secured over $1,000,000 in utility incentives plus a $350,000 Washington Department of Commerce grant, and includes Ameresco’s guaranteed performance.
