A Ameresco Case Study
The Town of Wayland partnered with Ameresco under a Guaranteed Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) and a Solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to meet its Green Community goal of reducing energy use by 20% and to replace aging, inefficient equipment in seven school and town buildings. Facing high operating and capital costs, Wayland sought comprehensive energy conservation measures and renewable generation to cut consumption, lower costs, and modernize facility infrastructure.
Ameresco designed and installed efficiency upgrades (lighting and controls, HVAC and boiler replacements, oil-to-gas conversions, water conservation, VFDs, building envelope improvements, and digital energy management) at seven buildings and built four solar PV sites (solar canopies and ground mounts). Under Ameresco’s 20-year guaranteed-savings contract and PPA, the 1,335 kW_DC solar system (more than 4,000 panels) is expected to generate over 1,500,000 kWh/year—about 25% of municipal electric needs—deliver nearly $8M in savings over the contract, and offset carbon equal to the annual electricity use of more than 113 homes.
