A Ameresco Case Study
The Town of Stockbridge partnered with Ameresco to reduce energy costs, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and put a closed town landfill to productive use. Ameresco was chosen to develop a solar photovoltaic (PV) project under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with net metering, siting the array on approximately 3.5 acres of landfill.
Ameresco designed and built a 900 kW DC (668 kW AC) solar farm with over 2,800 panels that began operation in February 2018. The system generates roughly 1.1 million kWh annually, offsets 849 metric tons of CO2 each year, and delivers about $60,000 per year in combined electricity savings and new tax revenue (≈$46,000 electricity + ≈$13,000 tax), with projected 20-year benefits exceeding $1 million; Ameresco also provides a public dashboard for near–real-time generation monitoring.
