A Ameresco Case Study
The Town of Braintree’s Electric Light Department (BELD) partnered with Ameresco to meet its franchise obligation to supply reliable, cleaner electricity to roughly 16,000 customers while advancing local climate commitments. Facing the dual challenges of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and making productive use of municipal assets, Braintree engaged Ameresco under a Power Purchase Agreement for renewable energy—specifically a solar photovoltaic system.
Ameresco executed a 20‑year PPA to design, build, own and operate two solar PV projects: a 1.26 MW DC landfill array (4,142 panels) and a 664 kW DC rooftop array at Braintree High School (2,109 panels), totaling 6,251 panels. The systems generate about 2,450,000 kWh annually (1.65M kWh from the landfill and 800k kWh from the rooftop), cut roughly 1,689 metric tons of CO2 per year, reduce reliance on fossil‑fuel generation, and provide educational opportunities—results delivered and maintained by Ameresco.
