A Ameresco Case Study
The Town of Bethel partnered with Ameresco to develop the Sympaug solar project on a closed town landfill, seeking to bring the site back into regulatory compliance and supply municipal buildings with renewable energy. Ameresco delivered a solar photovoltaic solution—a 947.7 kW DC solar farm using virtual net metering under a 20-year power purchase agreement—to meet the town’s sustainability and energy-cost goals.
Ameresco designed, permitted, financed, built, and commissioned the system (installing 2,916 panels, 30 inverters, and upgrading transformers and switchgear), secured ZREC subsidies, and will operate and maintain the installation. As a result, the Town of Bethel now offsets 100% of town consumption from the array, saving 1,254,587 kWh annually and reducing CO2 emissions by 934 metric tons each year.
